Fort William awarded Mountain Bike World Cups for 2019 and 2020

Fort William has been awarded a round of the Mecedes Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in both 2019 and 2020.

The award-winning event (31 domestic and international awards so far) will return for the 18th and 19th year of continuous downhill mountain bike action on 1-2 June in 2019 and 6-7 June 2020.

The 2019 World Cup series features 8 Downhills, with one new venue (Snowshoe USA), one returning venue (Les Gets FRA) and 6 classic venues

In 2018, more than 22,000 watched the event at Nevis Range ski area, where France’s Amaury Pierron (FRA) and Rachel Atherton (GBR) took the wins. Scotland’s Reece Wilson delighted the home crowd with a remarkable 4th place. In total there were 274 competitors from 24 nations.

The event delivered almost £3.5 million of economic impact to Lochaber and Scotland – since 2002 the overall economic impact has exceeded £40 million.
