Buff 4X ProTour – Round 3 Fort William – Preview

Round 3 of the 2014 4X ProTour is all set to take place this weekend alongside the Downhill World Cup race in Fort William. Title sponsored by Buff, the World’s top 4X riders are now all on route to the highlands for a showdown in front of the huge crowds in Fort William.

The track underwent a facelift over the winter months by pro rider and 4X ProTour joint organiser Scott Beaumont: ‘The lower sections of the track in Fort William were a little dated and needed to be brought in line with the current style of 4X tracks. Gone is the quad and in it’s place is a new triple jump that I’m sure will impress the crowds. A longer table top and widened rock section should give all the riders a fresh challenge” said Scott.

In the women’s racing, Overall Series points leader Dana Elena Schweika took the win at round 1 but slipped back to 5th at round 2 after a dominant race by Lucia Oetjen. These two will go head to head again on Saturday night to see who will lead the series points after round 3. 2013 4X ProTour Champion, Katy Curd is scheduled to race here in her preparation for the 4X World Championships which take place in Leogang one week after Fort William. A home win for Katy is definitely possible so look out for her to be at the sharp end come finals time.
In the men’s, the racing is going to be electric. Tomas Slavik took the win at the opening round and very much looked like the man to beat. However at round 2 in Winterberg last weekend, it was Frenchman Quentin Derbier who took the win ahead of the inform Felix Beckeman. The home crowd in Fort William, however, will surely be getting behind all the British riders. Leading the challenge will be Scott Beaumont and Lewis Lacey. Lewis had a career highest finish at round 1 with 4th position.

Also returning to Fort William is Joost Wichman. The Dutch rider is the current 4X World Champion and without doubt will be one of the key riders this weekend. Wearing the UCI Rainbow Jersey, Joost will be looking to show everyone why he is World Champion.

Fort William is an amazing venue for 4X. The track is demanding for the riders and entertaining for the crowd. The riders and spectators both love it and Saturday night, June 7th, the sparks will fly as all the riders battle to see who will take the win at round 3 of the 2013 4X ProTour.
